Drilling

D & L Energy Group's drilling arm is PetroFlow Inc., which is responsible for drilling, fracturing, completing and placing the well into production. PetroFlow usually has the wells operational within 60-90 days after drilling operations begin.

Drilling is the only accurate way to pinpoint underground reserves of oil or natural gas. Before drilling, permits must obtained, roads must be built to the site and the site must be constructed to accommodate heavy equipment. Pits must be excavated; they will hold drilling fluids, hole cuttings and water. Fuel and water tanks, drill pipe casing, and other supplies must be brought in.The rotary drilling method is the most common drilling method for oil and gas wells. The drill bit's steel teeth are fixed to a tube called a drill pipe, which is clamped at the top to an engine-powered rotary table. The rotary table turns the drill pipe, causing the drill to rotate, chipping and gouging into the bottom of the well as an electric drill bores through wood. Above the well, a derrick may reach 150 feet in height, depending upon the depth of the well. Blowouts are guarded against by an assembly called a Blow Out Preventer (B.O.P.), which controls vibrations and helps keep dangerous fluids and gases in the hold.
